Guestbook
Welcome to the Work Through Time Guestbook.
We’ve done our best to scour the island in search of work stories. But we know that we’ve only skimmed the surface. Have a great story about the work or working lives of your great grandparent or grandparents? Or maybe a great story about your own work on the island? This is the space to share it.
We welcome stories, anecdotes, memories, facts, tidbits and, of course, thoughts, reflections and comments on the site itself. Just enter your text below and click submit. It generally takes a few days for comments to appear so check back soon.
If you have a document or a photo that you’d like to contribute to the site, head over to the Your Work Through Time page.

- "Sources of CB Weaving history"
Comment: There are two women I know of who are a wealth of information about the history and importance of weaving in Cape Breton. Eveline MacLeod of South Haven has taught weaving for many years in at the Gaelic College and the CB Centre for Craft and Design (then the Cape Breton School of Crafts)and researched fibre crafts for at least two publications on the subject. She has been very involved in the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts where Marie MacDonald is now the weaving and spinning teacher. Greta White has taught weaving at the Boularderie Weavers group of the Munroe Crafters Guild on Boularderie Island for many years also, and learned to weave from her mother who wove for years for Florence Mackley. Both women have many stories to tell and it would be wonderful if they were recorded. Both are in their later years and ailing, and it would be a great loss if their stories went untold. Does your group have the resources to interview them? There are probably other women on the west side of the island in the same position. The people I would direct you to to find out would be Eileen MacNeil (Inverness) and Verna MacMillan of the Scotsville School of crafts.

- "Sources of CB Weaving history"
Comment: As an addendum to my previous message, Greta White lives in Point Aconi and her husband George passed away recently. Her neighbour Ruth MacNeil has taken over the weaving class in Boularderie for the past several years.
