Crooked Knife
Barry Bernard
In this video Peter Poulette of Eskasoni takes us through the process of creating a crooked knife - finding a piece of angle iron, grinding it into the appropriate shape, and refining and attaching a wooden handle. The crooked knife is an essential tool for Mi'kmaq people, needed in order to split the strips of white maple for basket making. This short film also includes various images of baskets and basket making.
